Chief Putnam started her career in law enforcement as a part-time dispatcher, reserve officer and court officer for the Town of Ogunquit in 1982. She then made the long trek north to Wells in April of 1985 as a full- time dispatcher and reserve officer. She moved to the Wells Police Department patrol division full-time in May of 1986 and worked her way up through the ranks as a sergeant, lieutenant and was appointed Chief of Police on May 20, 2008.
Chief Putnam is active in the Maine Chiefs of Police Association as their representative on the Bureau of Highway Safety Committee, E-Citation committee and the County and Municipal Detention Facility Advisory Committee. In 2012 she became the District 1 (York County) representative on the Maine Chiefs of Police Board of Directors.
Chief Putnam was also a member of the Site Selection Commission for the new York County consolidated courthouse. In 2009 she became a member of the York County Budget Committee and the Program Advisory Committee for the Criminal Justice Program at York County Community College.
Along with being a member of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association she is a member of the New England Chiefs of Police Association and the International Association of Chief of Police Association.
